Savor the Season: Rest, Rhythm + Real Food
It's summertime in the South, which means craving slower mornings, fresh food, and more moments outside â and July feels like the perfect time to make that happen.
This month, Iâm sharing a few things Iâm loving right now to support better sleep, natural energy, and a more relaxed daily rhythm (with less cooking and cleaning, of course).
So letâs keep it light â on our plates and in our schedules.
Easy Summer Meals with Zero Fuss
It can get pretty hot here, which can make cooking feel like the most oppressive chore. So, when it's too hot to turn on the oven, I like to keep a few simple staples ready to go in the fridge:
-
Pre-chopped fruits and veggies (think watermelon cubes, cucumber slices, bell pepper strips)
-
Clean protein: grilled steak, wild-caught fish, or shredded rotisserie chicken
-
Flavor boosters: chimichurri, fresh herbs, olive oil + lemon drizzle
⨠Quick combo idea: grilled peaches + arugula + chicken + balsamic glaze = chefâs kiss.
Reset Your Sleep with Morning Sunlight
One of the easiest ways to feel more rested (and actually fall asleep at night) is to spend 10â20 minutes outside in the early morning sun â without sunglasses if possible.
The early morning light helps reset your circadian rhythm, the internal clock that tells your body when itâs time to be alert and when itâs time to rest. Plus, it boosts natural melatonin production later in the day â your bodyâs sleepy-time hormone, which makes falling asleep easier.
Even a simple 10 minute walk, sipping your warm lemon water while barefoot in the grass, or enjoying your morning coffee on the porch can do the trick.
To further support your sleep this month, I've included a Meal Plan packed with nutrition that helps to regulate sleep related hormones and happy brain chemicals.

Why 20 Minutes Outside Can Change Your Mood
You've already learned that early morning sunlight can improve your sleep, but your body and mind benefit in several other ways too (in as little as 20 minutes of sunlight each day!).
Daily sunlight helps:
-
Reduce cortisol levels (aka stress hormones)
-
Increase serotonin (your natural mood-lifter)
-
Calm a racing mind and support nervous system regulation
-
Remind you to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the moment
- Help you meet your daily Vitamin D requirement to support a healthy immune system
And if you're not able to get that sun-soaked time every day, a high-quality Vitamin D supplement can help.
