If you have spent the last few weeks—or maybe the last few decades—letting a small plastic box on your bathroom floor determine whether you’re allowed to have a "good day," we need to talk.

We’ve been conditioned to believe that the number on the scale is the ultimate indicator of success .  But as a Physician Assistant and a mom to a 13 year old girl, I’ve realized a hard truth: The scale doesn’t get you that satisfaction. You can hit your "goal weight" and still be bloated, exhausted, and completely disconnected from your family.  

 

The Identity Shift

True health isn’t a number; it’s a feeling.  It’s defined by being present for your family, feeling confident in your skin, and having the energy to live your life rather than just surviving it .  When you move from "survival mode" to "flow," you reclaim the energy you thought you left behind in your 20s . 

I want to help create a culture that feels safe for women of all ages to focus more on feeling healthy than what the number on the scale tells them. 

 

What Are Your Daughters Learning?  

At the time of writing this, I have a 13-year-old daughter, and I am constantly mindful of what she is catching from my relationship with food and my body.  They are watching...always.  And when she watches you ignore your "whispers" or speak unkindly to yourself in the mirror, she learns that health is a burden to be managed, not a gift to be nourished.  So how can you begin to make the transformation you desire, while still being a positive role model for your daughter, your niece, your friend?  It starts with you making the choice to be consistent rather than perfect.

 

Consistency Over Perfection  

Everyone posts about their wins, but no one is talking about how leaning on the basics is the first thing you need to master. Doing everything all at once is a recipe for disaster.  Consistency in the basics—proper fueling, nervous system regulation, daily movement, and root-cause support—trumps a complete overhaul every single time.  The goal is not to drop 5 pounds by Sunday, but to rather create lasting habits that are helping your body feel well on the good days AND the bad.  Creating the daily routines that not only help your body look and feel incredible, but also help your mind to feel calm and in control, even through the chaos of daily modern life. 

 

Stop Being Defined by a Number  

Your version of the "perfect" number on the scale will not bring you the happiness and health you seek.  It is JUST a number that has been chosen for you (whether by your own doing, or by an outside influence) and can't ever truly reflect how you are feeling on the inside. I want you to shift your perspective and focus more on how much energy you have when you wake up, how comfortable you feel slipping into your clothes each day, how it feels at the end of the day to be calm and present with your family and friends rather than anxious and irritated.  Those are the moments that matter, the scale is just a distraction keeping your frustrated and stuck.
